Dr. Kim, who earned his Ph.D. researching fishing communities, has spent over 30 years immersing himself in islands and coastal fishing villages, connecting with residents, and studying tidal flat ecosystems. His research, conducted at the Institution for Marine & Island Cultures, Mokpo National University, and Gwangju Jeonnam Research Institute, covers fishing villages, marine culture, island policies, and tidal flat culture. As an academic research professor at Chonnam National University, Dr. Kim currently focuses on investigating the impact of environmental changes in fishing villages on surrounding communities.

김준 박사는 어촌공동체 연구를 통해 박사 학위를 받았으며, 30년 이상에 걸쳐 섬과 연안의 어촌을 탐방하며 여행하고, 마을 주민들 및 갯벌 생물들과 소통하고 있다. 목포대 도서문화연구원과 광주전남연구원에서 어촌, 해양문화, 섬정책, 갯벌문화 등을 연구하였으며, 현재는 전남대학교 학술연구교수로서 어촌환경의 변화가 어촌공동체에 미치는 영향을 살피고 있다. 다수의 책을 저술했는데, 그 중에는 『섬문화답사기』 (전 5권), 『바다맛기행』 (전 3권), 『어떤 소금을 먹을까』, 『갯벌을 가다』, 『김준의 갯벌인문학』, 『대한민국갯벌문화사전』, 『바닷마을인문학』, 『바다인문학』 등이 있다.
